How to use Aarogya Setu app? Is it really essential during this Pandemic situation

The government of India launched the Aarogya Setu app, an indigenously developed app for COVID-19 contact tracing. The app was developed by the National Informatics Centre under the Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology.

Aarogya Setu app uses mobile's GPS and Bluetooth to keep track of users when they come in contact with the affected persons. The app will also alert users if they came in contact with the COVID-19 positive individuals. The app tracks the locations of the users at an interval of 15 minutes for accurate contact tracking.

Aarogya Setu app is available on both iOS and Android devices. Users can choose their preferred app language from the 12 supported languages. While registering, Aarogya Setu app requests for user's basic info, their recent travel history, and it will also ask for any symptoms of COVID-19.

After registering in the app by providing the required information, the app prompts the users to take a self-assessment test. Based on the inputs given by the user, the risk factor is calculated using ICMR guidelines, and it is displayed on the Your status screen.

In case any of the persons you came in contact within the last 14 days, tests positive for COVID-19, the app calculates your risk automatically based on recency and proximity of contact. The app also updates the risk and recommends actions to be carried out on the home screen. The user's updated risk is shared with the Government of India to facilitate suitable medical interventions as required. The app also provides real-time COVID-19 case overviews, updates, and e-pass information if the user has an active e-pass.

Over 11.09 Crore Indians are using Aarogya Setu App, and our Prime Minister had requested every individual to download the app so that the government can trace the contacts in a much efficient manner. Our government made Aagroya Sethu app mandatory for all the government employees and for those who are traveling in public transport. The government said that they are continuously working on enhancing the security of the app, and assures that the information entered in the app remains anonymous and encrypted.
